Driving rules & cover scope
Can I drive in Europe?
Yes — minimum third-party cover is automatic across the EU. Comprehensive often needs an add-on.
Most of our insurers include the minimum level of cover required by law to drive your vehicle in the EU — typically third-party cover while abroad. To confirm the number of days you're covered and the exact level, check your Certificate of Insurance.
📄Do I need a Green Card?
You no longer need a Green Card to drive in most EU countries. However, you do need to notify us before your trip so we can inform your insurer.
If you're travelling to any of the following countries, a Green Card may still be required:
- Albania
- Azerbaijan
- Belarus
- Moldova
- Russia
- Turkey
- Ukraine
Your insurer will determine this based on your policy cover and the number of EU travel days remaining.
