Reporting a stolen vehicle
Police first on 101, then insurer with the crime reference.
If your vehicle's been stolen — sorry. Call the police on 101 first and get a crime reference number. Then your insurer.
🚨Step by step
- Call the police on 101 Or use Action Fraud for attempted theft. They'll give you a crime reference number — keep it, every step after this needs it.
- Tell DVLA if your keys went too Done online — search "report lost V5C to DVLA". Replacing keys with the original log book is faster.
- Call your insurer's claims line Open the policy, tap Manage Policy, then Claims & Support → Make a Claim — we'll show the right number. Have the crime reference ready.
- If the vehicle turns up Tell the insurer straight away. Don't repair or move it until they've inspected it — that can affect the claim.
