Fault vs non-fault — what's the difference?

Non-fault means your insurer recovers their costs from the other party. Fault means they don't.

The wording sounds judgemental but it isn't really about blame — it's about whether your insurer can claw their money back.

Non-fault

Clearly the other party's fault and your insurer recovers their costs in full from the other side's insurer. Your No Claim Bonus stays intact and the impact on your renewal price is smaller — but rarely zero.

⚠️Fault

Either you caused (or partly caused) the incident, OR your insurer couldn't recover their costs (for example, the other driver was uninsured or never traced). Affects your No Claim Bonus and shows on your record at renewal.
